The Institute of Social Sciences was established with the article 23 /c added to the law numbered 2809 with the law numbered 3837 dated 03.07.1992. It first started educational services in the fall semester of 1993-1994 academic year.
Institutes as set out in Article 3 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547; is a higher education institution that conducts post-graduate education, scientific research and application in more than one similar and related scientific fields in universities and faculties.
Graduate education includes master's, doctoral, specialization in medicine and proficiency in arts education and is divided into the following levels.
- Master (Science Specialist, Higher Engineering, Master of Architecture, Master): It is a higher education aimed at revealing the results of education, teaching and research based on a bachelor's degree.
- Doctorate: It is a higher education, covering an undergraduate program of at least six semesters, or masters or at least four semesters based on expertise gained by pharmacy or science faculty graduates in a laboratory in accordance with the principles laid down by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and aiming to demonstrate the results of an original research.
- Specialization in medicine: It is a higher education which is carried out in accordance with the principles set by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and aiming to provide medical doctors with abilities and competence in specific fields.
- Proficiency in arts: It is a higher education equivalent at the doctoral level covering an undergraduate program of at least six semesters, or a master's degree of at least four semesters, aiming at the creation of an original work of art and a superior application and creativity in music and performing arts.
